The weekend of 27.-28. April saw the 5th Qwan Ki Do Children's and Youth European Championships at Saalsporthalle, Zurich. Qwan Ki Do is a Vietnamese martial art. The Swiss Qwan Ki Do Association organized this championship and even participated with a 55-strong delegation of children, youth and judges. A total of 465 athletes from 62 clubs participated in the "Quyen" category and 317 athletes from 60 clubs in the "Combat" category. The participating children and teenagers, aged seven to seventeen, came from eleven different European countries. The largest delegations came from France, Italy and Romania. 70 adult referees supervised and judged the fights for two days. "We are very proud of the achievements of the children and tennagers and are happy about the motivation that everyone takes home from this competition", says the technical director of Switzerland, Giam-SuNazzareno Caretti (7th Dang).
This European Championship is an additional success for the comparatively small Swiss federation. They have managed to organize this great event with the help of countless helpers from family and friends. Thanks to sponsorslike Swisslos, Mobiliar, Club 55, Atelier S, Grassia Storen and Hotel Four Points by Sheraton as well as various small sponsors, an event could be set up in which the participants wanted for nothing. "Although the participants fought hard, the mood was extremely good and friendly. I'm proud of the accomplishments of everyone involved, "says Giam-Su Nazzareno Caretti. The Swiss Federation thanks Maître Pham Xuan Tong, all participating athletes, referees, coaches, parents and friends for their untiring commitment to this championship and for their commitment to Qwan Ki Do.
